Help Promote 988
Promoting 988 Day on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 is a powerful way to take part in a nationwide “Day of Action” focused on raising awareness about the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. The goal of this day is to create positive buzz and encourage people, organizations and communities to share information about this vital resource through creative outreach and engagement.
Ways people can help promote and strengthen 988 Day include:
- Displaying a 988 yard sign at your home or place of business (pick up at our Sioux Falls or Rapid City office or email marketing@helplinecenter.org)
- Sharing our social media posts leading up to that day and on 988 Day to help raise awareness
- Request free 988 marketing materials ahead of time so you can pass them out to coworkers, friends, neighbors, etc on 988 Day
- Tagging the Helpline Center or using the #988Day hashtag to expand awareness and reach new audiences
- Hosting or participating in community, school or workplace activities around suicide prevention
Another important reason to promote 988 Day is to reinforce the message that help is compassionate, accessible and always available. The 2026 nationwide theme “Compassionate Help. Anytime. Anywhere.” reflects the Lifeline’s mission to provide empathetic, reliable support through a network of more than 11,000 counselors across the country. Increasing awareness helps break down barriers and stigma around seeking mental health support, encouraging people to reach out without fear or hesitation.
Finally, 988 Day depends on the creativity and involvement of individuals and communities to make a meaningful impact. The campaign emphasizes that everyone’s voice matters and that a successful Day of Action is driven by participation and engagement from people at every level. By promoting 988 Day across South Dakota, individuals help build a culture of support, spread hope and ensure more people know they are not alone.
