The Register of Deeds Office is the vital records library for the county.
The office records deeds, mortgages, assignments & addendums to mortgages, satisfactions, easements, UCC's, affidavits, plats, military discharges, powers of attorney, miscellaneous records, etc.
The office files Federal Tax Liens, SD Sales Tax Liens, Reemployment Assistance Compensation Liens, UCC's, Fictitious Business Name Registrations, Mechanic's Liens, Locations Notices, etc.
The office issues Marriage Licenses, Certified copies of Birth, Death and Marriage Certificates, Military Discharges, and certified copies of recorded documents, credit searches on Federal Tax Liens, Sales Tax Liens and Unemployment Tax Liens.
The office maintains files of birth, death, marriage, military discharges, burial records, Federal Tax Liens, Sales Tax Liens, and Reemployment Assistance Compensation Liens.
The Register of Deeds office works closely with the public, as well as other governmental municipalities, planning and zoning offices, land title companies, banks and other financial institutions, land surveyors, real estate businesses;and various state departments and agencies, including, but not limited to, the South Dakota Secretary of State's office, the South Dakota Department of Health, the South Dakota Department of Revenue, and the South Dakota Department of Transportation.
