Volunteer at the Helpline Center

Since 1974, the Helpline Center has been giving support, offering hope and creating connections for individuals throughout South Dakota through a variety of programs and services.  We are looking for mission-driven, caring individuals who are interested in supporting our staff through these various volunteer activities.

Community Resource Volunteer

Help keep the three Helpline Center databases up to date by connecting with agencies and providers to verify their information. 6 – 8 hours a month depending on your schedule and department needs.

Surviving After Suicide Mentor

The purpose of the Surviving After Suicide (SAS) Mentor program is to provide safe opportunities for survivors to give back and help other survivors find hope in their grief journey. Must have completed the SAS class and complete required additional training prior to volunteering in this role.

Marketing & Development Support Volunteer

Use your marketing and development skills to support the work of the Helpline Center. Examples include but are not limited to staffing booths, grant support, content writing, photography or any other skills you would like to share. Interview and background check required.

 

Group Volunteer Opportunities

Community Influencers

Use personal or professional networks to promote events, share campaigns, or recruit attendees and donors. Groups are encouraged to distribute brochures, flyers, or promote programs/events at coffee shops, libraries and community centers.

Days of Service

Lead volunteer teams during our annual Day of Service events. Help create a meaningful impact in the community through hands-on service and team coordination.

Maintenance Support

Rally a team of volunteers to complete indoor and outdoor maintenance projects that keep the Helpline Center running smoothly and looking its best.

Special Events

Be part of our signature events like the Step Forward Walk and the Spirit of Volunteerism Breakfast. Roles may include event setup, registration, hospitality and more.

Corporate Packing Events

Gather your co-workers and join in assembling care kits and other needed items.

Caring Cards

Create uplifting cards for Helpline Center staff.

Staff Support

Show some love to Helpline Center staff. The work they do is often stressful, so an act of kindness goes a long way! Buy or cook a meal for staff, deliver baked goods or flowers, or dream up another way to show your support.
