AID Training
AID (Awareness, Interaction, Direction) is a 90 minute mental health awareness training that teaches individuals how to interact effectively with someone experiencing mental distress using three steps: Awareness: Recognizing signs and symptoms of distress. Interaction: Effectively interacting with someone in distress. Direction: Locating and providing resources to individuals in distress.
Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR)
QPR (Question, Persuade and Refer), are three steps anyone can learn to help prevent suicide. Just like CPR, QPR is an emergency response to someone in crisis that can lead to the proper support services. In this 90 minute training, participants learn about the nature of suicidal communications and how they may be used as an opportunity for a QPR intervention.
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)
Mental Health First Aid teaches anyone how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health distress or crises. This 8-hour training gives participants the skills to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and connecting them to the appropriate care.
Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) is a two-day (16 hours) suicide intervention training that gives participants the confidence, knowledge and practical tools to intervene when it matters most. Led by certified trainers, participants will learn a framework for moving into conversations with someone thinking about suicide and walking them through a safety plan.
Suicide Safety Response Training
Suicide Safety Response is a 90 minute, interactive training. Research shows that safety plans help save lives for people with a suicide plan. This training walks through statistics specific to South Dakota, evidence-based safety planning steps with an emphasis on how to make one’s home environment safe.
